Water

Lately I've been trying to drink more water so I carry a bottle with me everywhere I go. Slowly I'm drinking a little more each day but its nothing compared with elephants!.....

elephants drink up to 160 litres of water per day and a mature elephant can carry up to 6.8 liters of water in its trunk!

Sudan has 223 Pyramids which is more than in all of Egypt. Makes you think though doesn't it when Egypt is the most visited country in Africa! I suppose its because the great pyramids at Giza are the last remaining wonder of the ancient world I also suppose it makes the Nubian pyramids in Sudan all the more special to see...

The money problem...

Recently I've been pondering on ways to raise funds before November remember I mentioned lists earlier? well one of them is a list of things we need and top of that list is a brand spanking new camera with a decent lens (yes we do need a camera that's why its on the need list rather then the want list) so back to the raising funds I have come up with the idea a brilliant idea a absolutely wunderbar idea which is... wishing to win the lotto! a fail proof plan (or so I thought) until my moo was kind enough to point out.... you have to be in it to win it....oh dear...

Our Safari

When someone tells you they are going on safari the word conjures up images of Africa, setting out in search of the BIG FIVE but in Swahili (a language I'm very keen to learn) Safari means Journey therefore any trip we take in life is a safari no matter where we go. from now on when i talk about our travels in Africa i shall refer to it as our Safari.
Another interesting fact it that the BIG FIVE all safari goer's aim to find (Lion, African elephant, cape buffalo, leopard and both the black and white rhino) are not actually named as the best animals to see rather it is a term coined by big game hunters referring to the five most difficult animals to hunt on foot a fact that is some what depressing.

As i said before i am very keen to learn Swahili here are a few simple words i've learnt so far...
Hello: Hujambo (although more commonly used when speaking to tourists is Jambo)
I'm fine: Sijambo
Excuse me: Samahani
Thank you: Asante...

The first...

So this is my first ever post on this blog or any other for that matter so bear with me as i get used to the weirdness of it all! I'm starting this up as a way for friends and family to follow our progress across Africa from November this year! so many things need to be set in place before we head into the wilds and getting my head around it all has been hard so far I'm working off lists, Lists comparing flight prices, lists of clothes and items I imagine we might need (I keep reading that we need to have my own everything right down to things like toilet paper seriously we need to carry 6 moths of toilet paper?) lists of places to stay and things to do, lists of seasons, lists of vaccinations we need (and since I'm a baby when it comes to needles the thought of injections is turning me to jelly) as you can see though its lists lists lists! I am in a flap about it now but I know it will all be worth it soon so for now I must just remember to breathe....
